Waitlists
A class waitlist that fills spaces without you
In Amble, a member who finds a class full joins its waitlist and sees their place in the queue. When someone cancels, the next person is booked in automatically, first come, first served, and their credit is taken only then.
How it works
When a class reaches its capacity, members can join the waitlist instead. Joining costs nothing: no credit is taken while they wait.
When a booked member cancels, the place goes straight to the first person in the queue who has a credit to use. If they don’t, Amble moves on to the next person. There is nothing for staff to do and nothing to send.
Members can see where they are
The app shows each member their position, such as “Waiting · #2”. Knowing you’re second is a reason to keep the evening free; knowing only that you’re “on the waitlist” isn’t.
It works with your cancellation window
Each class schedule has a cancellation window in hours. Members who cancel inside it get their credit back, which gives them a reason to cancel early, and every early cancellation is a place the waitlist can fill. See the guide to running a waitlist people trust.
What it doesn’t do yet
- A promoted member is booked in outright. There is no time-limited offer to accept.
- Amble doesn’t send a push notification when someone is promoted. The booking shows in their app straight away, but the promotion email only goes out in Amble’s overnight run, for classes in the next 24 hours.

How does a class waitlist work in Amble?
A member joins when a class is full. When someone cancels, the first person in the queue with a credit is booked in automatically, first come, first served.
Can members see their position?
Yes. The app shows it, for example “Waiting · #2”.
Does joining a waitlist use a credit?
No. The credit is only taken if they are promoted into the class.
What if the next person has no credits left?
Amble skips them and offers the place to the next person who can use it.
Do members have to accept the place?
No. They are booked in automatically, so a space never sits waiting for a reply.

Most waitlists are decoration. What makes one credible: automatic promotion, no offer left hanging, a visible place in the queue, and honesty.
